Six Components of
Veterinary Gas Anesthesia

Dr Mark Francis explains the
Six components of Veterinary Gas Anesthesia:

  1. Oxygen source: small & big tanks or remote tank system
  2. Regulator & tank pressure (one gauge serves three functions)
  3. Flow meter (incorporated into gauge mentioned in component 2).
  4. Vaporizer: compatible for haloflurane, isoflurane (most common) and sevoflurane.
  5. Patient delivery system: Non-rebreathing system eliminates dead space of long tubing to obtain more acceptable, more immediate plane of anesthesia to the patient.
  6. Exhaust gas canister or F/Air canister to scavenge anesthetic agent.   May also vent directly outside of surgical suite.
